What We're Doing to Strengthen the US Economy and Create Jobs

The Made in the USA Foundation rests on four cornerstones: legislation, litigation, representation and information. These four major categories will serve our mission to lay important groundwork in areas that have been underdeveloped or underutilized in the effort to support US manufacturing. In addition, we provide the material and the tools for other Organizations, Businesses, and Individuals to build upon. We believe that with the right start the Made in the USA movement can be revitalized and magnified, creating new and better jobs, fostering a healthy economy, and restoring American pride.

Legislation

The Foundation developed and supported two pieces of federal legislation that have been en-acted into law. The first success was passage of the American Automobile Labeling Act. This law requires all new cars and trucks to have a label on the window of the vehicle that states where the vehicle was assembled, the percentage of U.S. and imported content and where the engine and transmission were made.

The Foundation worked for many years on passage of the Country of Origin Labeling Act. (COLA) This law requires grocery stores to display country of origin information on fresh produce, meat, chicken and fish. In addition, the Act requires that consumers be informed if the fish is farmed or wild caught.

Litigation

The Foundation has successfully brought many cases in its own name, and supported other lawsuits that were consistent with its purposes. Made in the USA supported and initiated several cases where manufacturers were misleading consumers about the country of origin of products.

The Foundation also created the American Crafts Project in 1999. This project assists American designers who have their designs replicated overseas for ‘cheaper’ manufacturing. This project has won 20 cases against Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Kohls and many other U.S. retailers.

Representation

The Foundation actively promotes companies that manufacture here in the Unites States. Our online shopping platform lists US made manufacturers and assemblers for easy ‘Made in the USA’ finds.

The Foundation works to connect manufactures, businesses, organizations, and individuals who further the American Industry and American jobs, with each other and with the consumer. We use Internet marketing, events, publications and personal outreach to endorse those allied with the Made in the USA movement.
